Yong Chun Quan

The Futshan Yong Chun Quan Gung Fu is taught at the Ko Wu Tao Kwoon.

Futshan Yong Chun Quan is a traditional southern Chinese martial art involving a very close-in range of fighting. It is the Science of In-Fighting and was born within the core of the Shaolin (Siu Lam) Temple. The system was created by a Buddhist Mistress (Nun) who taught it to her female pupils in an adjacent convent in the Fujian Province during the Ming Dynasty (1600 A.D.)

Sifu Dr. Ko and his son, Sifu Michael Coconis teach this Yong Chun Quan Gung Fu system.

This Futshan System of Yong Chun is considered the traditional predecessor to today's Wing Chun. Sifu Dr. Ko and his son, Sifu Michael Coconis, have been training in Wing Chun for many years.

From Ohio, Sifu Dr. Ko has an extensive background in Hung Ga Gung Fu (Tiger/Crane) as well as Shaolin training methods. He immediately recognizes the close and complimentary relationship of Yong Chun and Hung Ga. The common-mode being the movements of the Crane. Yong Chun Quan is saturated with the quick angular and linear striking movements of the Cobra Snake and the small-circle, elusive, and defensive movements of the White Crane.

Hung Ga is saturated with the powerful twisting direct movements of the Tiger (Claw) and the elusive large and small-circle movements of the Crane.

During the Fall '99 and Spring 2000 semesters at Wichita State University, Sifu Dr. Ko taught the Hong Kong Style of Wing Chun for a full one-credit hour course in the Kinesology and Sport Studies Department, Combatives Arts Room, Heskett Center, Wichita, Kansas. The coursework was quite successful and many new Wing Chun Kung Fu students were cultivated there.
